Last of the Week

I've just got done with the last drawing class I have this week. We did a couple more still lifes, and next week it sounds like we'll be doing some drawings of faces. This will become the common practice as long as I have art classes. I may have to work something special out for some of my later classes. Later I'll have a life drawing class which will include nude models, so it may not be the most appropriate work to post. :P

But anyway, here are the still lifes.

these look really great. but i'm just wondering, does being able to draw really have that much bearing on your ability to put codes together to make games? just curious.

I think its cool your taking that class, I think its important to broaden your horizons, I don't know if this is how it works, but maybe some where down the line when your pitching an idea to someone about a game, you might want to be able to know how to draw something out quick, and make it look effortless. I think its cool. Don't skip it.

I was wondering how you were going to do "transparency" - you did great!

Do me a favor and don't let me know when the "nude" comes up. I don't wanna know! ;)

I say post your drawings of nudes. They're just as valid as everything else. Nice job, keep up the good work, Ben.

Ben didn't tell you he was going to be the nude model. Are you sure you want to see?

Dianna - Since I'm doing the more artistic side of the game development, I won't be putting much coding together. Being able to draw what I model, however, will make the modeling itself a TON easier. Just nice to be able to see what I'm making.

Mel - That would be nice. In the end, if I can get my skills built up, my drawing and/or paintings would do the pitching for me. :)

Mom - No worries. You don't need to know. :P

CAF - I would agree with you to a certain extent. However, considering the audience I have here on my blog, it would be courteous not to submit them to those pieces without proper control. I'll most certainly post them on DA, though.

Dad - I hear the models make pretty good money.... :P

so will you be more like those guys in the movies who draw up the preliminary ideas and story boards? that would be cool

Almost, but not quite. All the 3D bits in a game or movie need to be modeled by someone. That will be my job. But being able to draw what we're going to model beforehand will make the job easier.

These are just basic art classes to get me started. The other stuff will come later.

Didn't you feel awkward drawing someone like that?

I haven't done the nude drawings yet. That's a different class. I'll have that one later.

Haha. 11 Comments! I knew they'd be good after reading about your upcoming nude models...ha. I'm with Robin, I don't want to know - you can just stay my innocent nephew in my head. =)

i totally missed the nude thing until later. . .

So your Mom and some others are having a problem with the idea of nude models. Well, I would imagine that if you were married you'd really have a problem.

I think your talent is very obvious in the work you have posted. It may be a basic class but your work looks more seasoned then basic. Did you have art classes in high school?

Are you enjoying the work? You may not know it, but you come from a long line of artists on the Norman and Michaelson side of the tree. Art heavy on the Norman side, Michaelson's were more into music, then art.

Personally I don't want to see any nude drawings of Ben.
